Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a plant similar to ginger, originating from Asia. It is grown in China, India, and Indonesia. It is most commonly used as a spice, and is also a decorative plant with beautiful flowers.
As a spice, it is used dried and ground from the root. It has a strong taste and a characteristic yellow color, which leaves a mark on the skin or clothing upon contact. The vibrant color of the ground turmeric root powder is attributed to an ingredient called curcumin.
Turmeric is also one of the spices in the famous curry spice blend, and in India, it also holds an important place in Ayurveda, where it is even referred to as a sacred food.
Use: You can prepare tea from turmeric powder, or add it to smoothies, juice, yogurt, spreads, salad dressing ... In cooking, you can use it in risotto, roasted vegetables or other dishes. Consume a maximum of 3-5 g of powder per day.
