Vitamin D3, also known as the sunshine vitamin, is a fat-soluble vitamin. This means it is stored in fat tissue and the liver, where it is released into the bloodstream as needed. Its absorption is enhanced when consumed with a meal containing healthy fats.

It is called the sunshine vitamin because our bodies naturally produce it when exposed to sunlight, specifically UVB rays.

We can naturally support our intake by spending at least 15-30 minutes a day in sunlight without sunscreen, as sunscreen blocks UVB rays and prevents the formation of vitamin D3.

However, there are two key challenges:

• Prolonged exposure, especially during peak sunlight hours, can damage the skin, leading to sunburn, dehydration, and other negative effects, particularly in the summer months.
• From October to March, there is insufficient UVB radiation to produce adequate vitamin D3 from sunlight. During these months, it is recommended to supplement with vitamin D3 through diet or supplements.
