Diatomaceous Earth – A Natural Sedimentary Rock

Diatomaceous earth is a natural sedimentary rock formed from the fossilised remains of diatoms, single-celled algae with siliceous skeletons. These diatoms contain silicon in their cell walls, and their remains settle at the bottom of lakes, rivers, and oceans.

Over time, these fossilised remains create a layer called diatomite, which appears in dried regions as a fine, white to light grey siliceous sediment.

Composed of micropores with a strong negative charge, diatomaceous earth can effectively trap water, oils, impurities, or metals.

Optimal Blend: 79% Silicon Dioxide, 14% Aluminium Oxide

Futunatura’s diatomaceous earth boasts an ideal mix of 79% silicon dioxide and 14% aluminium oxide. Silicon dioxide, commonly known as silica, gives diatomaceous earth its nickname, silica, in the UK.

Versatile Uses: From Pest Control to Stain Removal

This remarkable rock has countless uses around the home, including:

    • Water filtration – perfect for purifying water and other liquids, such as in pool maintenance or brewing beer and wine.
    • Natural pest control – used in gardening and farming to tackle pests like ants, slugs, mites, and fleas naturally.
    • Stain removal – its absorbent nature makes it great for soaking up oils, grease, and other spills from surfaces.
    • Moisture control – place it in bags or containers in damp areas like bathrooms or basements to keep them dry.
    • Odour elimination – neutralises unpleasant smells in bins, shoes, and more.
    • Carpet refreshing – sprinkle evenly over carpets to absorb dirt, odours, and moisture, then vacuum after a few hours.

    Not a food supplement.
