Himalayan salt is a natural rock or mineral salt extracted from salt mines in the regions of Pakistan and India, located at the foothills of the Himalayas. The salt is hand-excavated and typically ground or shaped into various crystal sizes.
Unlike sea salt, which forms relatively quickly, Himalayan salt is the result of a prolonged process of seawater evaporation that occurred millions of years ago. When the area now known as the Himalayas was an ancient ocean, minerals from the soil and rocks concentrated in salt deposits due to solar heat. These deposits were buried under layers of sediment and rock, and tectonic movements later pushed them towards the surface, where erosion and weathering made them accessible for excavation.
Futunatura Pink Himalayan Salt is finely ground, offering versatile use. It can be used like regular salt for seasoning dishes, creating salt blends and marinades, or even for preparing a salt bath or homemade cosmetics.
What distinguishes pink from black Himalayan salt?
Beyond their colour, which results from varying mineral content, they differ in flavour and aroma. Pink salt has a milder, more delicate taste, while black salt has a stronger flavour and a distinctive sulphur-like smell. Both are sourced in the same way from the same mines.
Recommended Use: Use Himalayan salt in any dish as you would regular table salt. It is also excellent for creating homemade cosmetics.
