Baobab or monkey bread tree, also known by its Latin name Adansonia digitata, is a tree native to Africa, Arabia, Australia, and Madagascar. It is recognised by its distinctive wide trunk, which often grows in irregular shapes, with twisted branches extending to form a sprawling canopy.

This tree is also known for its fruit, which is egg-shaped and resembles a capsule, encased in a hard shell. The fruit, or more specifically its pulp, is the most commonly used part of the baobab, as it has been a key component of African herbal traditions for centuries.

Due to its beneficial properties and majestic appearance, it is often called the “tree of life”, reflecting its popularity, particularly in winter or among those with fast-paced lifestyles and poor dietary habits, as it serves as an excellent source of fibre.
