Jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum) is an interesting climber originating from the lush green landscapes of Southeast Asia. With its characteristic five-leafed leaves, it forms a dense layer that spreads across forest floors or wraps around supports.
In Asia, jiaogulan has a rich history of use and is closely linked to various cultural stories and traditions. In some regions, it is even called the “immortality herb,” having been highly respected for centuries by local communities who used it for a variety of purposes.
The uniqueness of jiaogulan places it alongside highly valued herbs such as Asian ginseng, Siberian ginseng, schisandra, and astragalus. Like these plants, jiaogulan is known for its resilience and ability to thrive in diverse environments.
Its leaves, the hallmark of its recognition, release a gentle fragrance when touched, reminiscent of a blend of green tea and liquorice. Once dried, the leaves develop a more pronounced herbal aroma with refreshing and slightly sweet undertones.
In accordance with the EU Regulation on Novel Foods, Jiaogulan cannot currently be sold as tea or food. Therefore, we offer it to you as a potpourri - for decoration or air improvement in the room. Potpourri is a natural room freshener made from one herb or a combination of different herbs.
