Chaste tree (Latin name Vitex agnus-castus) is a shrub native to the Mediterranean, mainly thriving in southern Europe, including southern France, Greece, and Italy. 

It is also known as monk’s pepper, as its fruits resemble peppercorns. The term “monk’s” comes from the fact that in the Middle Ages it was often collected by monks and nuns, who wore it around their necks as an amulet.
