Lugol's Solution or Lugol's Iodine is a water solution of iodine and potassium iodide. This combination has been used for many years and is used for various purposes as a raw material.

In 1829, the French doctor Jean Guillaume Auguste Lugol worked with it, after whom the solution was named. He found that by adding potassium iodide, the solubility of iodine in water increased, so Lugol's solution contains iodine and potassium iodide in a ratio of 1:2.
