Jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum) is an interesting climber originating from the lush green landscapes of Southeast Asia. With its characteristic five-leafed leaves, it forms a dense layer that spreads across forest floors or wraps around supports.
In Asia, jiaogulan has a rich history of use and is also associated with various cultural stories and traditions. In some regions, it is even called "the herb of immortality", as it has been highly respected by the local residents for centuries, who have used it for various purposes.
The uniqueness of jiaogulan places it alongside valued herbs such as Asian ginseng, Siberian ginseng, schisandra, and astragalus. Like these plants, jiaogulan is also known for its resilience and ability to thrive in different environments.
The leaves, which are the heart of its recognizability, emit a gentle scent upon touch, reminiscent of a combination of green tea and sweet licorice. Dried leaves develop a more pronounced herbal aroma with refreshing and slightly sweet undertones.
In accordance with the EU Regulation on Novel Foods, Jiaogulan cannot currently be sold as tea or food. Therefore, we offer it to you as potpourri - for decoration or air improvement in the room. Potpourri is a natural room freshener made from one herb or a combination of different herbs.
